I remember growing up and always falling behind, one because I was an EL student and two because I write slow and I would always get lost. The only time I was able to understand was when we worked in small groups, I remember during those time where the times to shine. Just like me every student is different and they learned with different teacher instructions not just one. First the role of a teacher is to differentiate what instructions work and which don’t work. The second step should be planning around the instructions that work and forget about the ones that don’t work. Teacher should change the strategies or accommodate to the needs of the student not to the teacher needs. Sometimes teachers just present the way the instruction tells them without even knowing if that’s the best way a student comprehends the instructions, let’s remember that we’re trying to better the students not the teachers. How will you know if the student is learning the material you’re presenting? Assessment should be the teacher’s best friend. An assessment is a paper, test, discussion, or another material that lets you know the progress of a student. Assessment does not always have to be use as a grading guide, an assessment can be use to promote learning. They can be use as a material on what to study for a test or establishing positive expectations. How to design a good assessment? Good assessment should include variety of systems ex tests, quizzes, homework, and different sources to those students that learn in various ways. The teacher should always have good communication with the students to keep the goals that work and destroy the ones that don’t. The students are the feature of the generation, we have to give them the best tools to build their feature.
